Then, we are finally done, and can move onto the other buildings.\u00a0 Did I tell you that we found extra original panes of glass in the granary, which were used in the barn windows.<\/p>\n<p>The Historic Structure Report is still being compiled by MacDonald &amp; Mack.\u00a0 It should be done in June.\u00a0 What we have learned so far, is that the house is made of a\u00a0 log building core.\u00a0 We have also learned that the original color of the house was grey.\u00a0 There was white wash below the grey and around the window frames, but the white wash would have been use for a temporary color.\u00a0 We are still planning to restore the buildings to 1885 when it was photographed, which means grey.\u00a0 The two porches (now enclosed) will be opened up to mirror the photos of 1885.\u00a0 A post from the original south porch, was found in one of the barns.\u00a0 The accent color appears to be red, but MacDonald &amp; Mack is still working to define the color.<\/p>\n<p>In Sweden, Walpurgis Night, traditionally on April 30th, marks the official end of winter.\u00a0 The day is also the traditional day to remove winter debris and ready properties for new plant growth, and the summer.\u00a0 Traditionally, the day is marked by an evening of bonfires and music.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We could use your help on Saturday April 1st, as we follow some of the Walpurgis Night tradition. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>This Saturday, April 1st, between 10 am and 1 pm, we are inviting everyone to help us ready the Peterson farm for summer events.\u00a0 We will be picking up branches, twigs, and cleaning up the flower gardens in preparation for summer events, and planting.\u00a0 Please bring, garden gloves, rakes, or other gardening tools.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-690\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carvercountyhistoricalsociety.org\/wpcchs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/dsc03405.jpg\" alt=\"DSC03405\" width=\"4608\" height=\"3456\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The North Barn finally with a new roof!\u00a0 Thank you Minnesota Legacy grant!\u00a0 See below for what we started with.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-725\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carvercountyhistoricalsociety.org\/wpcchs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/north-barn2.jpg\" alt=\"North barn2\" width=\"2816\" height=\"2112\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carvercountyhistoricalsociety.org\/wpcchs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/north-barn2.jpg 2816w, https:\/\/www.carvercountyhistoricalsociety.org\/wpcchs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/north-barn2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.carvercountyhistoricalsociety.org\/wpcchs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/north-barn2-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.carvercountyhistoricalsociety.org\/wpcchs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/north-barn2-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The north barn has its shingles!\u00a0 See the photo below.\u00a0 This is one step closer to having the barn completed.\u00a0 What is left is: the windows to be installed, the building painted, and another layer of wood flooring to be installed.
