Our Communities: A Walk Back Through Time
Victoria
Michael Diethelm was the first settler in Victoria. In 1851, he settled land and in the spring of 1852, he and his family moved into a log house he built. In June of that year, his brother and family joined him. The town was first called Liberty and in June of 1853 was changed to Victoria. It was primarily a German Catholic settlement. Victoria's growth has been steady with the 2000 census reporting a population of 4,025.
