Our Communities: A Walk Back Through Time
Hamburg
Records for Hamburg are very sparse. They were either never kept or were destroyed. The 2003 census indicates that the population of Hamburg was 538. Johaan D. Roeder settled in Hamburg in the early 1850's. It is assumed that Mr. Roeder platted the Community and named the streets after his daughters. Many names were suggested for the village such as Roeders Siding, Sultan, and Washburn, but Mr. Roeder finally convinced everyone that the name Hamburg should be used since most of the settlers in the area came from Germany.
